Earth Day Clean-Up Event with Inyo350 a Success

On Saturday, April 24th, over 50 volunteers came together in Bishop to celebrate Earth Day, give back, and pick up trash.

Inyo350, the Sierra Trash Eliminators, Eastern Sierra Land Trust, Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association, and Friends of the Inyo joined forces to provide trash-grabbers, trash bags, gloves, safety vests, and plenty of good cheer to make sure the volunteers who joined the fun were fully equipped and ready to go.

After a safety talk and last grab of coffee and pastries, folks geared up and headed out to locations across Bishop to help clean up.

Friends of the Inyo employees Alex Ertaud and Michael Cleaver (and Muffin Cumberdale) headed to our Adopt-a-Highway section on Highway 168 toward Aspendell with super steward Richard for some cleaning up.

Upon return to Bishop, volunteers were treated to a discounted meal from the delicious Rolling Chef, and a great raffle with prizes from local Bishop vendors and businesses. All in all, the day was a rousing success, with the dumpster provided by Bishop Waste overflowing with refuse collected by folks all around town.

This has been a long year with few in-person volunteer events due to COVID, and it was so refreshing to see everyone joined together, masked, socially distant, and enjoying a beautiful day outside in the springtime sun. Here’s to many more events together this summer!
