2019 OHANCAW Wrap-Up

HNCA’s 21st annual Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week® was held April 7-14. Thank you to our partners for another successful week of raising awareness and screening individuals for early signs of oral, head and neck cancer. Together, we teamed up to offer more screenings than last year, with more still to come!

So far in 2019, our partners have presented 216 screening events in 18 countries. In the U.S., 41 states have participated, with Florida holding the most screenings so far (11), California offered 10, Illinois offered 9, and Massachusetts, New York and Ohio each offered 9. Globally, our partners offered screenings in Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Canada, Croatia, Greece, India, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Russia, South Africa, Iran, and the United Kingdom.

Thank you to our 2019 spokesperson, Rikki Rockett, for his time, effort, and advocacy in raising awareness of oral, head and neck cancer and promoting the importance of screening and early detection.

Although the majority of our screenings take place during Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week®, OHANCA® is a year-long initiative. We welcome screenings any time during the year, and we encourage our partners to consider hosting a screening event later in the year! If you work at a medical or dental clinic and would still like to offer a free oral, head and neck screening in your community, you still can! While Awareness Week has come and gone, we support screenings anytime during the year. Just like during OHANCAW®, you organize the screening and provide the volunteers and screeners, and HNCA will provide the promotional and educational materials to you, free of charge!
