DATE: Thursday, March 14th (Understanding Fuels/Fire Behavior) and Thursday, March 21st (Burn Planning)
Time: 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Location: 11434 B Ave, Auburn, CA in the Jeff Brown Room
#3
The weather prescription is at the core of prescribed fire
application. Weather is also the hardest factor to control! Placer PBA is
hosting this training to help community members better understand weather
prescriptions and to introduce available tools and resources to PREDICT when a good
weather window may be opening. Improving our ability to predict a prescribed
burning weather window will help us all prepare our units in time, capitalize on spontaneity, apply and
obtain necessary permits, meet due diligence standards, intelligently manage
risk, and ultimately lead to a more fire-resilient community. The course will
use prescription information to help landowners begin building a burn plan. This
will be a great course to help prepare landowners planning for spring burns for
invasive species management or those interested in preparing a burn plan for an
early fall burn.
This course is hands-on and will require participants to bring
a laptop, tablet, or cell phone to look up resources during the course. Minor pre-course work may be required. The course will be taught by Placer RCD’s Cordi Craig, Prescribed
Fire Program Manager, and Chris Paulus, Forestry Technical Advisor.
To be prepared, please bring:
- personal laptop, tablet, or cell phone to use for looking up resources
- any snacks/water/ or food to make it through the night
- questions and active participation
Our goal is to equip landowners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to implement low-complexity prescribed burns. Our trainings are designed to provide tools and resources that lead to on-the-ground implementation. Please bring any challenges, questions, or ideas that you feel are pertinent to implementation.
