The Award Recognizes Work to Pass the “Reviving America’s Scenic Byways Act”
We’re honored to announce that Scenic America has won the “Power of A” Gold Award, presented by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). ASAE is the national organization that represents more than 46,000 association executives and 7,400 organizations, and is celebrating a century of work this year. Each year, ASAE highlights the best work of nonprofits at the “Power of A” Awards Ceremony, which will take place virtually on September 30. This year, six organizations received Summit Awards, 21 organization earned Gold Awards, and 39 organizations received Silver Awards.
Scenic America received the Gold Award for Advocacy, specifically work on the “Reviving America’s Scenic Byways Act.” Scenic America both authored and was central to the efforts to pass this legislation – the first time that Scenic America has done so. The Act was signed into law on September 22, 2019, restarting the application process for new byways, and marking a new dawn for current and prospective scenic byways.
“Congratulations to Scenic America on being named among the very best organizations that go above and beyond their tax-exempt purpose to improve society and our quality of life in America and abroad,” said ASAE President and CEO Susan Robertson, CAE. “This has been a very trying year for associations, but even amid a months-long pandemic, associations are proving that positive change can happen.”
Scenic America President Mark Falzone said that ASAE’s recognition was “a great honor,” and that the award comes as Scenic America has enacted a renewed focus on effectively working to support and shape pro-scenic legislation.
“That legislative victory was the culmination of so much hard work, by so many people,” he noted. “So it’s especially gratifying that a group of our peers have recognized the momentous effort the passage of that law required.”
Falzone pointed out that Scenic America could not have achieved these legislative victories without Scenic America’s supporters, and countless others.
“This award isn’t just Scenic America’s,” he added. “It belongs to every person who wrote their legislator; every senator and representative who lent their support; and to all the other organizations and people who worked to pass the Reviving America’s Scenic Byways Act.”
