As we all face the need for massive changes in how we live, we look to the guidance of our faiths to help us aid and comfort each other. I personally feel very nourished by the lively and thoughtful efforts of all my FACS friends, to create a livable world.
Because of the advocacy by FACS, with volunteers drawn from 190 faith communities in the area, Fairfax County is making progress, as promised, towards reducing its emissions by 2030. For instance, the County has contracted to add a solar farm on retired areas of the Lorton Landfill. Still, we’re creating 3000 pounds of trash a day, vehicle miles traveled have gone back to pre-Covid levels, and the Regional Transportation Board is focused on adding more pavement rather than better public transit. There is a lot of problem-solving, talking to our neighbors and friends, and advocacy to do.
