Reach Out to Swing-State Voters!

We all know democracy is on the ballot in 2024! In what could be a very close election, turnout is going to be a big factor

This year, once again we'll be working with groups like Vote Forward and Movement Labs to write letters and send texts to reluctant voters in key battlegrounds states. We've found that taking action together is the best way to overcome feelings of powerlessness and cynicism.

Join us either in person (in downtown Seattle) or online to make a difference for democracy at these upcoming events:

  • Get together with like-minded folks to write letters and talk democracy  to voters in a fun, casual atmosphere!

    • Where: KEXP Meeting Space (472 1st. Ave N., west side of Seattle Center)

    • When: Sundays, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the following dates: 3/24, 4/14, 4/28, 5/12, 6/9, 6/23

    • CLICK HERE to sign up

  • Join us on Zoom to learn all about how to text-bank for democracy! We'll also discuss different groups and efforts you can join (many from your own home) to help save democracy this year!

    • Where: online

    • When: Saturdays from 11 a.m. to noon (Seattle time) on the following dates: 3/30

    • CLICK HERE to sign up

OTHER WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

Last Updated 2/17/24

1. VoteRiders is a fabulous organization with the mission of ensuring that no eligible voter is prevented from casting their ballot because of restrictive voter ID laws -- either directly (from the lack of an acceptable ID) or indirectly (because of voter confusion). They have regular volunteer actions that can be done from your home, including textbanking and voter outreach. Go here for more info: https://www.voteriders.org/volunteer They have regular

2. Did you know that 100,000 elections are captured by the Republican candidate every year because the Democrats don’t even field a candidate? That’s why the group Contest Every Race has made it their mission to recruit candidates to run for offices all across the country. They need help researching races and preparing/persuading candidates to run. Learn more here: https://www.contesteveryrace.com/get-involved/volunteer

3. Do you consume a hot beverage in the morning? Use the simple tool
5calls.org to make a better world while your drink brews. An easy way to make a difference!

4. The fact is that 4 million Americans turn 18 every year, and we need their voice in our political process! The Civics Center is an organization devoted to registering young voters. They perform outreach work to high schools all across the country. They need people to write postcards to young voters and help with voter registration drives; see how you can get involved here: https://www.thecivicscenter.org/volunteer

5. Texting voters and volunteers is a powerful way to activate people in key states and races. The national group Movement Labs can get you set up to text from the comfort of your home and make a difference in as little as 30 minutes a day or a couple hours a week. Go here for more: https://volunteer.movementlabs.com

Bonus Action! It seems unbelievable, but many polls show that the 2024 election will be a close one. One of the best ways you can help is by posting positive news about President Biden and the Democrats on social media, pointing out how much they have accomplished in so many areas (like renewable energy, unionization, shoring up our international reputation, protecting the environment, creating jobs, and more). For an overall look at what Biden and the party has accomplished, see the Democrats Deliver site.

WHO WE ARE

There is power in numbers. We are a group of private individuals who are concerned that America is at risk of losing our democratic tradition and structure right now.

Many of our neighbors, friends and family have shared their worry about the election, and at the same time have said they weren't sure what actions to take, or overwhelm with the number of organizations to follow.

We are addressing this by sharing actions each of us can do every day to strengthen and maintain our democracy. These actions are a combination of our own initiatives and those of other organizations.

WHO ARE YOU?

There are several roles you can play in standing up for democracy. You can:

  • Do these actions yourself and invite a friend! Be sure to subscribe to our newsletter below.

  • You could also share in your larger groups inviting others to join in -- think of your social media groups, alumni association, clubs, and workplace.

  • Additionally, you could organize action campaigns; please contact us if you'd like to organize!

People with many diverse skills are needed in these efforts. If you'd like to go beyond these actions. please reach out to us at seattledemo@yahoo.com
