Obituary for Atticus Manchac Stephens

Atticus Manchac Stephens, age 26, of Tallahassee, FL, passed on September 11, 2022. He was born on April 26, 1996, in Orlando, and was the oldest son of Lane and Joetta Stephens, of Quincy, FL. Atticus graduated from Chiles High School and attended Troy University, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi, and he was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Quincy Lodge.

Atticus found his life’s calling when he enrolled in the fire program of Chipola College. He became a full-time firefighter for the City of Marianna Fire Department in 2018, and during his training to become an EMT, he was proud to serve his community after it was impacted by Hurricane Michael. Atticus was an Engineer for the department and served as the Vice President of the Marianna Professional Firefighters Local 4397. He served as a member of the Mt. Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department and worked as a Transport EMT for Tallahassee Memorial Hospital EMS. Atticus attended many firefighter lobbying events at the State Capitol and was proud to be invited to attend the bill signing ceremony by Gov. DeSantis of cancer protection legislation.

While his time with us was short, Atticus impacted the lives of many. He always had a huge smile, was a great storyteller, and was a beloved friend and co-worker to many. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his younger brother, Slater, his grandparents, Don and Mert Stephens of Blountstown, Joe Manchac and Peggy Manchac, of Quincy, Uncle Scott Stephens and Aunt Dena Manchac, and many cousins and extended family, including his best friends Gabe Jackson, Max Baroody and Ryley Bean.

The funeral for Atticus will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Quincy on North Madison Street, on Friday, September 16, at 11 a.m. E.S.T. A Firefighters’ Honor Procession will follow with burial at Old Philadelphia Church Cemetery on Old Philadelphia Road in Quincy.

Memorial contributions may be made in Atticus' name to the Mt. Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department, 2875 Mt. Pleasant Road, Quincy, FL., 32352.

Charles McClellan Funeral Home, Quincy, FL., 850-627-7677, is in charge of arrangements.
