Port of Vancouver Harming Columbia River’s Health, Suit Says (1)

The Port of Vancouver, Wash., is allowing excessive amounts of pollution into the Columbia River, an environmental advocacy group said in a new complaint filed in federal district court Wednesday.

The port isn’t monitoring its stormwater discharges, hasn’t developed adequate practices to control stormwater quality, and hasn’t submitted reports on time, Columbia Riverkeeper alleged in a lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington.

The port’s stormwater discharge has copper, zinc, and other pollutants that exceed the benchmarks in its permits.
