Love is in the air at our Summer of Love benefit June 13
And, has been since 1866 when The Floating Hospital first provided New York City’s poorest families with compassionate medical care and a day of fresh air and respite on its historic hospital ship. On June 13, we will thank supporters and host an open-air party to raise both funds and awareness of the vital work we do to keep New York families in good health. And you’re invited to join us. Your ticket purchase helps ensure the city’s most vulnerable access high-quality healthcare, related health education, everyday essentials and practical life-skills programs that help families thrive—not just survive. Emmy Award-winning WPIX-11 anchor Monica Morales will be our honored guest and emcee for an evening of thanks, support and celebration … of dancing, drinks and delicious bites at Current, the waterfront venue on the Hudson River, where love—and much more—will be in the air. We were in a pickle!
Many thanks to the Association of Pickleball Professionals and InPickleball magazine for including The Floating Hospital health educators in the first-ever tournament at Queens’ Tennis Center. The team of 18 educators and staff and board chairman Dom DeLorenzo learned the basics of the popular game so they could teach it to youth attending Camp Rise Up this summer. The event will get play in the magazine’s next issue. By all accounts, it was a smashing hit, with Team TFH planning another training session before hitting the courts in August with the campers. Additional thanks to pro instructors Rommie Maxey, Matt Manasse, Ryan Sherry and Parris Todd; Acacia Shoes, Adidas, and Intersport.
Many generous people collaborated to make our excellent day possible. In addition to the pro instructors, we would like to thank the InPickleball staff: Richard Porter, J Armus, Isabel Burton and Fred Pfaff; Paul Olson and Adam Kahn of Acacia Shoes; Phil Mintz of Adidas; Michael Polisky and Michael Gendell of Intersport; Andy Frain Security Services (for going above and beyond–thanks “T”) and Ken Herrmann of the Association of Pickleball Professionals.

Cooking, not cookies!
Girl Scout Troop 6000 participated in a cooking class at the Chef Maria Loi-Loukoumi Make a Wish Foundation Teaching Kitchen to earn their badges in cooking and baking, while learning how to prepare food that’s not only good to eat but good for you. Troop 6000 was especially created to serve girls in the New York City shelter system and was the subject of an article in the New York Times and a subsequent book.
