Investment in a Civilian Climate Corps (CCC) could be transformational in addressing climate impacts on our trails, supporting local sustainability initiatives, and engaging passionate young adults in climate-impact projects. There are currently more than 130 nonprofit and state-run Service and Conservation Corps across the country. These programs have decades of experience completing trail and infrastructure projects. They have been partnering with community stakeholders, nonprofits, and resource management agencies for many years on advocacy, developing service-learning career pathways, and providing disaster relief. With proposals for a CCC moving forward, there is a new opportunity for Corps and partners to strategize how to get more work done with a climate-resiliency focus. This webinar will highlight two successful Corps projects, demonstrating the potential of a national CCC initiative that's supported by diverse partner funding, resources, and local community input.
Following the presentation, the panelist will respond to questions from webinar participants.

Jen Tirado, Founder and Principal, Impact JEDI

Jen Tirado, born and raised in the Bronx. Founder and principal of Impact Jedi consulting firm where she works with nonprofits, corporations and the local community in strategy and action planning for social and environmental solutions. She has spent most of her professional career in the sustainability, economic and community development sector. She led the charge of hundreds of young adults and staff and designed innovative programs, including the scale of a local farm/eco-hub model in NYC at Green City Force, an AmeriCorps green service and training program. Other experience and achievement include agriculture research in Iowa, managing farmer’s markets in the Bronx, and studying and implementing permaculture design at Maharishi University, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Living. Jen earned a Professional Certificate in Public and International Affairs from Baruch College through the NY Community Trust Fellowship program, was named NYC Food Policy Center’s 40 under 40, earned an Executive Certificate in Corporate Social Responsibility from Rutgers Business School. Currently, Jen is actively working in her home island of Puerto Rico to implement the Puerto Rico Climate Corps after the successful completion of a feasibility study. In addition, working with the National Commonwealth Group on economic development interventions on the island. In New York City Jen works with Ideas42 as a Community Coordinator on behavior change campaigns under the Economic Justice portfolio.
Chris Gomon, Program Coordinator, American YouthWorks

Chris Gomon is the Austin Civilian Conservation Corps (ACCC) Program Coordinator. Chris has been with the Texas Conservation Corps at American YouthWorks since 2014, starting as an AmeriCorps member. In between his work with the program and his graduate studies in habitat restoration, he can be found biking around to the various swimming holes of Austin.
Lauren Edwards-Johnson, Programs Coordinator, The Corps Network

Lauren Edwards-Johnson is a Programs Coordinator who manages The Corps Network’s (TCN) federal land grants, agreements, and various other public-private partnerships. Prior to joining TCN, Lauren completed an AmeriCorps service term with the Montana Conservation Corps as a Northern Rockies region field crewmember. She served in wilderness areas and public lands in Montana and Idaho on backcountry trail construction, conservation, and historical preservation projects.
