#AAJA21 Career Fair with JournalismNext

One of the most invaluable parts of any AAJA Convention is the opportunity to network with other amazing journalists, learn about other companies, or explore adjacent media industries. This year, we’re working with JournalismNext, a leading career platform for journalists of color, to amplify resumes to a network of companies attending #AAJA21. In order to be included in our career fair and have an opportunity to interview with potential employers, you must upload your resume into the convention-specific database on the AAJA Career Center.

If you’re not yet on the AAJA Career Center:

  1. Go to www.aajacareers.org.

  2. Create an account.

  3. Go to “My Resumel”

  4. Post your resume — Select that you will be attending the “AAJA 2021 Virtual Career Fair/Convention.”

If you already have an EXISTING resume on the AAJA Career Center:

  1. Go to www.aajacareers.org.

  2. Log into your account.

  3. Go to “My Resume.”

  4. Click “Confirm Activation” if your resume has been deactivated.

  5. Click “Edit,” go to “General Information” and down to “Job Fair Registrations.”

  6. Select that you will be attending the “AAJA 2021 Virtual Career Fair/Convention.”

NBCU Academy

APPLICATION DEADLINE: August 16, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Apply here.

NBCU Academy’s trainings will take place throughout #AAJA21. These trainings through NBCU Academy include: 

  • Visual Storytelling During Breaking News (August 24 at 1-3 p.m.): Want to be a cable news producer? Or work for an NBC-owned station? This master class will delve into the elements of producing impactful, memorable cable T.V. news segments with a competitive edge and will weave in lessons for producing thoughtful spot news reports that differentiate you from the competition. The class will also clearly lay out expectations for participants interested in applying to positions at MSNBC and owned stations. This is an application-based program.

  • How to Create A Business News Story Everyone Will Want To Watch (August 27 at 1-3 p.m.): This workshop is meant to help participants understand what makes a compelling business story and how to move the story forward. Participants in this workshop will be chosen from the application process to research, write, and produce a business story. Prior to the convention, participants will be assigned a mentor who will help them prepare a story pitch that will be presented during the convention. At the journalism convention, participants will showcase their learnings by pitching their story to a panel of CNBC professors and receive immediate feedback. There is a potential opportunity to have their story aired on a CNBC platform. This is an application-based program.


CNN Writers AND Producers Workshop

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Rolling basis

CNN’s writers and producers workshop for TV reporters will take place on Thursday, August 26 at 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Applications for writers and producers are being accepted on a rolling basis. Due to high demand, only candidates who APPLY and receive CONFIRMATION will be accommodated.

DESCRIPTION: CNN is hosting a workshop with some of the most enterprising and engaging reporters along with the best producers and digital journalists at #AAJA21. Senior managers, on-air coaches and CNN correspondents will teach and challenge attendees on what it takes to make it to the network. During this half-day, small group workshop, reporters and producers will build skills and apply practical techniques. Topics include enterprise reporting, on-air performance and presentation, editorial decision making, producing philosophy, winning at breaking news, and building a digital strategy.

This is an application-based program.

ABC NEWS STORYTELLERS SUMMIT

The ABC News Storytellers Summit will be on August 25 at 12:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. EST. Applications are now open!

DESCRIPTION:

The ABC News Storytellers Summit is a half-day development workshop created by ABC News and the ABC Owned Television Stations designed to bring producers, writers, reporters and content creators together for a series of cutting-edge conversations and training sessions to take their storytelling to the next level. This summit will be led by leading ABC News journalists and executives from across all of our platforms and shows. Participants will walk away with first-hand knowledge around the skills that make ABC News the number one source for news and innovative ways to enhance their storytelling.
