Hunger Free Vermont Launches New Vermont Food Help Website

Earlier this month, Hunger Free Vermont launched a new and improved website to provide information about 3SquaresVT – Vermont Food Help.

This site is for people looking to learn more about 3SquaresVT (also known as SNAP). It hosts a wide variety of information and outreach tools for service providers and retailers, and all the information those interested in applying for 3SquaresVT may need.

Staffing Change at the Vermont Affordable Housing Coalition

After 24 years as Coordinator for the Vermont Affordable Housing Coalition (VAHC), Erhard Mahnke is leaving to join the outreach team for Senator Bernie Sanders. Erhard is an integral part of Vermont’s housing community and his expertise, experience, and respected voice will be sorely missed. Read this letter from VAHC Steering Committee Chair, Cindy Reid, to learn more.

Erhard’s last day with VAHC will be February 28. The Coalition is beginning a search for a new staff person, and in the meantime Coalition members are stepping up to monitor legislative developments in the weeks ahead.

If you have questions about State House coverage on these issues or how this affects the Alliance, please reach out to our Public Engagement Director, Dan Brown, at dan@vecaa.org.

RSVP for the Alliance Equity Discussion Group – 2/19, 1:00 pm

Many early childhood community members have renewed their personal and professional commitment to antiracism and diversity, equity, and inclusion, and want to engage in sustained learning. To support this, the Vermont Early Childhood Advocacy Alliance and its partners are convening a monthly, salon-style Equity Discussion Group via Zoom. Our next meeting will be held this Friday, February 19, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

This month’s session will be co-hosted by Elena Gustavson, Director of Business Resources at the Vermont Community Loan Fund, the Alliance’s parent organization. The discussion will focus on how dialect and language can influence our social biases, particularly around race.

Email Amy Russo-Perler, Alliance Outreach Manager, at amy@vecaa.org to register.

The Vermont Early Childhood Advocacy Alliance is a statewide coalition formed in 2000 of early childhood professionals, parents, organizations, businesses, and strategic partners committed to improving public policies that impact young children between birth and age eight in the areas of health, safety, food security, economic security, and early care and education.

The Alliance crafts an annual Legislative Agenda in partnership with early childhood organizations, provides year-round advocacy support, and facilitates meaningful interactions with policymakers at key times during the decision making process.
