8th-12th Grade Rowing

Three Rivers Youth Rowing’s competitive rowing program is one of the strongest programs in the Midwest region, the largest youth rowing program in Western Pennsylvania, and has enjoyed a significant amount of success on the national level.  This level of success is achieved by creating an environment where students are encouraged to pursue individualized goals while being supported by their coaches and teammates.  The goal of TRYR is to create a community steeped in athletic excellence and made up of young people who care deeply about those around them.

No experience is necessary to join our team. Any athlete, regardless of experience or background, is welcome to row with us. Financial support is available.

Three Rivers Youth Rowing is always accepting new rowers!  No experience is necessary. You are welcome to come to observe or participate in a few practices before you make a commitment. Please email Head Coach Matt Grau to set a time to visit practice, or to ask more questions about our program.

Rowing is a unique sport in that there is an entire segment of our sport devoted to new athletes - novice rowing. When a new rower joins our team, they will train and race with other rowers in their first year of rowing. After completing a year of novice rowing athletes will move on to the varsity program.

Our Winter 2024 program is now accepting registrations!

Three Rivers’ 6th & 7th Grade Rowing program is ideal for both inexperienced and experienced rowers.  This program is designed to prepare athletes for our 8-12th grade program by instilling each athlete with the confidence and good character necessary to succeed at the varsity level.  This is accomplished through skill development, team-building activities, and competition.

Our winter season takes place at the Millvale Campus, where we have access to indoor rowing machines (commonly called ergs), indoor rowing tanks (pictured above), and a weight/fitness center.  Athletes can expect to spend time in the rowing tanks and on the ergs each day, with additional activities, games, and core + flexibility exercises included in the programming.

Any athlete, regardless of experience or background, is welcome to row with us. Financial support is available.
