Support the Homeless Children and Youth Act
ORGANIZATION ACTION REQUESTED: Sign up below to endorse the Homeless Children and Youth Act (HCYA)

Most children, youth, and families experiencing homelessness are shut out of homeless assistance because they do not meet the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) restrictive definition of homelessness, despite their great vulnerability. The bipartisan Homeless Children and Youth Act allows children, youth and families experiencing homelessness to be seen and served by:

1. Aligning HUD's definition of homelessness with those of federal programs for children, youth, and families.
2. Requiring HUD to score applications primarily on whether they are cost-effective in meeting the priorities and goals that communities identify in their local plans.
3. Improving HUD homeless assistance data and transparency.

This legislation would give local communities the flexibility to provide assistance to homeless children, youth, and families in a way that is responsive to the unique needs of each community.

Thank you for taking this step to ensure that homeless children and youth are seen and served adequately in their communities.
