Potters of the Trail opens Friday, May 3 at Artspace 304 with an opening reception that night from 5-7pm. The exhibition showcases the work of the potters who open their studios to the public during the Shawnee Hills Pottery Trail and is on view until June 21st. Potters of the Trail celebrates the pottery and crafts tradition that is strong in Southern Illinois. Hollow Semblance by Elissia Kimball is on view at The Corridor Gallery starting May 8 through mid-June. The exhibition originated as a collection of 70 poems exploring themes of nature, existentialism, disillusionment, mental or physical illness, healing, and starting over. The paintings transport the view into an imagined space of the poetry both harmonious and thought provoking. On Thursday, May 23, Artspace 304 is hosting Ralph Hepola for a live jazz concert at 7pm. Hepola received a grant from the John Stites Jazz Awards of Michigan to fund his summer tour of jazz music, celebrating America’s musical art form. As a musician who plays the language of contemporary jazz on the tuba, Hepola is totally focused on ‘a new and innovative approach’, expanding the audience for jazz, and celebrating diverse national and international influences on the music.  ...
