Oppose coerced speech and separate-but-equal systems in schools
Members of the House Education Committee will hear two bills next Tuesday fostering coercion and discrimination in schools:
HB2707 would unconstitutionally require recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance in classrooms—the religious endorsement "under God" included—as well as a two-minute moment of silent reflection (read: prayer).
HB2314 forces students to make a written request to use a gendered bathroom (or similar accommodation) not consistent with their gender at birth. And it creates a separate-but-equal system for these facilities.
Bonds of trust between parents, kids, and their teachers are key to educational success and childhood development. Kids need to feel like they can trust the adults in their lives to have their best interests in mind—not to foster atmospheres of religious indoctrination or discrimination.
