Take Action: No Methanol

Fracked Gas-to-Methanol Company Abandons Oregon Refinery Proposal

Sign onto our letter urging the Port of Columbia County to recognize the departure of Northwest Innovation Works Port Westward LLC and cancel its lease option agreement with a non-existent company.

Dear Port of Columbia County Commissioners and Staff:

We urge the Port of Columbia County to terminate its lease option involving the dissolved company, Northwest Innovation Works Port Westward LLC.

Northwest Innovation Works Port Westward LLC (NWIW) informed the Oregon Secretary of State of its July 2021 dissolution on September 3, 2021. In recent media reports, Sean Clark, Executive Director for the Port of Columbia County, stated that NWIW’s lease option is still “in effect.” However, the company named in the Port’s lease option agreement, Northwest Innovation Works Port Westward LLC, no longer exists.

NWIW’s proposal at Port Westward was never a good fit for the community or the climate. The methanol refinery would have generated millions of tons of air pollution each year while consuming a staggering amount of fracked gas. The proposal should have no future in the Columbia River Estuary or the Port of Columbia County.

Please act promptly to cancel the Port’s lease option with NWIW’s non-existent affiliate and end any confusion about the company’s dead-end, fracked gas-to-methanol refinery project at Port Westward.

Thank you,
