Annual Membership Meeting Recap

The Alliance’s seventh Annual Membership Meeting was held last Wednesday via Zoom.  Over 50 members of the Vermont early childhood community joined us for an afternoon of reflection, planning and appreciation for our last year of work.  We were joined by Congressman Peter Welch, Sen. Ginny Lyons, and Reps. Wood and Jessup to discuss incoming federal funding and our advocacy work in the next six months.

Child Care and Development Fund State Plan Public Hearing - Tomorrow at 5:30 pm

The Child Care Development Division will be holding a public hearing on the Child Care and Development Funds (CCDF) and the state’s use of those funds on Wednesday, June 2 at 5:30 pm.

The Child Care and Development Fund Block Grant provides CCDF funds to states in order to improve access to affordable high quality child care services for low income working families.

A proposed draft plan for Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2022-2024 is available to view.  Comments can be submitted at the public hearing, or through this survey through June 3rd, 2021.

Northern Lights Training with Dr. Mercedes Avila for Early Childhood Educators

Northern Lights at CCV recently announced an upcoming training opportunity with Dr. Mercedes Avila.  Dr. Avila’s training focuses on increasing awareness for racial, ethnic, and class biases using structural competency models to advance equity work with early childhood programs.  She will also introduce best practice models to address disparities that disproportionately affect historically underserved communities.

This 3.5 hour online real-time training will be offered via Zoom and meets the criteria for Advanced Specialized Care.  This training is offered at no costs to participants. Registration is now open – register here soon to reserve your seat.

 

New Hires at the Child Development Division

The Child Development Division (CDD) recently announced that Keith Williams has been hired as the Director of Children’s Integrated Services (CIS) and Nicole Dubuque has been hired as the CDD Policy Director.

Keith is currently the Program Director at the Center for Academic Success at the University of Vermont, and Nicole previously served in the Economic Services Division as the Reach Up Program Manager.  Both will be joining their respective teams on Monday, June 7.  

 

The Vermont Early Childhood Advocacy Alliance is a statewide coalition formed in 2000 of early childhood professionals, parents, organizations, businesses, and strategic partners committed to improving public policies that impact young children between birth and age eight in the areas of health, safety, food security, economic security, and early care and education.

The Alliance crafts an annual Legislative Agenda in partnership with early childhood organizations, provides year-round advocacy support, and facilitates meaningful interactions with policymakers at key times during the decision making process.
