Overview of DMH/Zoo New England Wellness Safari
The MA Department of Mental Health (DMH) is partnering with Zoo New England to raise awareness about children’s mental health during Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week - May 2 through 8, 2021 – with a Wellness Safari.
During that week, visitors to Zoo New England’s Franklin Park Zoo and Stone Zoo are invited to participate in a Wellness Safari. A map will guide participants to signage at particular animal exhibits. As guests enjoy the zoo’s natural environment and connect with wildlife, they will also have the opportunity to find tips on initiating family discussion and nurturing wellness in children. DMH will also have resources available at the parks from our Children, Youth and Families division such as HandHoldMA.org and Isaac’s Story; as well as, other local and community resources.
Background
This partnership was established through the DMH Office of Community Engagement with the DMH Child, Youth, and Families division and the Children’s Behavioral Health Knowledge Center to raise children’s mental health awareness and to promote HandHoldMA.org.
To learn more about partnering with the Department of Mental Health, please contact the Daniela Trammell Harrigan, Director of the Office of Community Engagement at either daniela.trammell@mass.gov or at 617-626-8124.
