Alliance Monthly Equity Discussion on Juneteenth and Early Childhood – 5/27

Join a group of peers and colleagues from the early childhood community to engage in sustained learning about anti-racism, equity, and inclusion. The Alliance hosts a monthly, salon-style Equity Discussion Group via Zoom, and the next session is coming up on Friday, May 27, at 1:00 pm.

We are excited to announce that this session will be facilitated by Ali Dieng from Building Bright Futures and Zoraya Hightower, the Executive Director of the Vermont Peace and Justice Center. We will be discussing how to teach young children about Juneteenth and how to talk about race more broadly.

Please email Dan Brown, Alliance Public Engagement Director, at dan@vecaa.org to register.

VTAEYC Survey Results

Recently, the Vermont Association for the Education of Young Children (VTAEYC) surveyed early childhood education programs about the impact of the current staffing crisis. The statewide survey confirms what has been heard in so many conversations – the staffing crisis is dire and it is impacting Vermont educators, children, and families.

Of the programs surveyed, 86% are experiencing a staffing shortage. On average, there are 3.1 open positions per center-based program. 80% are enrolling fewer children than desired. On average, there are 10.1 fewer children served daily per center-based program.

For more information and to see the survey results, visit the VTAEYC website.
