Trainings

Pace e Bene trainings help unleash the power of nonviolent change in our lives, our communities, and our world. Using storytelling, exercises, role-plays, small and large-group discussions, short presentations and journaling, these workshops explore the vision, principles and concrete tools of active nonviolence.

Trainings include:

  • Introduction to Nonviolence Community Course

    • A 6-week online basic introduction to principled and strategic nonviolence using Pace e Bene's Engaging Nonviolence Manual. It is intended to provide an opportunity to build community while studying nonviolence. Participants will connect with others who share their interests in discovering the many dimensions of active nonviolence. Using small and large groups, facilitators will guide the participants through explorations into the personal, interpersonal, and social justice aspects of nonviolence. This Community Course is designed to be accessible, fun, friendly, and fearless. Using an online platform, participants can engage with this exciting field from the comforts of their home. The course will familiarize participants with the overall contents of the Engaging Nonviolence study program which will serve to foster personal growth, healthy relationships and work for world peace.

  • Applying Meditation for Nonviolent Living

    • When we study the lives of people who changed the world through nonviolent means, we see that they were all rooted in some form of spiritual practice which sustained them through moments of crisis and human vulnerability. Faith was the fundamental source of their inner strength and capacity to endure. The goal of this workshop is to offer an experiential introduction to the practice of meditation drawing from different spiritual traditions yet free of jargon, dogma or doctrine. The overall goal is to give participants an opportunity to discover which way is most suited to their temperament and natural inclination. Generally speaking, meditation is a way to train the mind and make friends with ourselves; it is an act of love that nourishes the core of nonviolent living and being. As Gandhi has said, “nonviolence is impossible without self-purification”. Transformation happens naturally through meditation.

  • Introduction to Nonviolent Communication (NVC) for Social Change

    • Are you longing to find practical ways of "living" nonviolence when you talk with people who have very different viewpoints? Are you weary of "fighting" for change and wanting to find ways to stay energized by your vision and values?  Do you want to find freedom from self-judgment and self-righteousness? Perhaps you've heard about Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and want to know more about it? Or you want to learn what it has to do with activism? This introduction will include opportunities to learn and practice some of the key aspects of NVC.  There will be some teaching, practice, and opportunities to work with your real life situations.

This 2-hr Nonviolent Communication training offers a set of principles and practices that can support us as activists in living out our values of empathy, compassion, and authenticity. It can not only help us listen and be heard, but also involves moving from there to effective action steps that will make the world better for all.

I’m absolutely loving the course, and so are my friends that are also taking it. I’m learning so much, and I always feel like I’ve just done some amazing form of self-care after the class concludes. It’s challenging me in a way that brings clarity and inspiration at the same time. Thank you for the effort and presence that you bring to the class.
