Textiles

Textiles and clothing are an important component in residential waste streams- coming from our closets, bathrooms, kitchen, or living room. Textiles and clothing also have industrial uses in firefighting, healthcare, agricultural work, and cooking. We are surrounded by products containing textiles and it’s about time to discuss end-of-life for these materials. Textiles comprise 4% of the CA waste stream according to CalRecycle’s 2014 waste characterization report and many clothing manufacturers agree that raw material sourcing has the largest impact in GHG reduction efforts. Join this webinar to learn what manufacturers are doing upstream to address textile sustainability and how jurisdictions are dealing with textile recycling at end-of-life. Panelists include Mark Walker, CEA of Outerknown, Andy Keller, CEO of ChicoBag, and Dr. Joanne Brasch of NSAC, who holds a PhD in Textile Economics and teaches at UC Davis in the Department of Textiles and Clothing.
