Act on Climate Change

Faith Communities

For decades, Earth Day has been a platform for religious leaders and people of faith to mobilize around the protection our common home. Together with our global network of faith partners, EARTHDAY.ORG™ empowers individuals to advocate for the environment from a faith, moral, and justice perspective and to engage in personal behavior change and civic action through our year-round programs and campaigns.

We hope that you will find inspiration from our featured faith partners who used Earth Day 2020 to elevate climate action as a political, social, and economic priority worldwide.

Pope Francis calls for action and unity

A month after the world commemorated the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, Catholics across the globe participated in Laudato Si’ Week, May 16-23, commemorating the 5th anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical.

Whether you identify as a person of faith or not, Pope Francis reminds each of us that we have the opportunity to build a better world through acts small and large.  Chapter 6 of the encyclical, “Ecological Education and Spirituality”, states, “Love, overflowing with small gestures of mutual care, is also civic and political, and it makes itself felt in every action that seeks to build a better world.”
