LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Friend,

When we held our Awards dinner in 2019, none of us could imagine what the next two years would hold. We certainly could not have predicted a worldwide pandemic which would cost the lives of one million Americans, not to mention its devastating impact on the entire world. Many of us were equally shocked by the authoritarian response of many of our own government officials who under the guise of science, used mandates, orders, curfews, and lock-downs to force the American people to comply. We were constantly urged to follow the science, only to find out in the aftermath that much of what they demanded had nothing to do with science. It had more to do with an irrational need to control people.

Moreover, these mandates caused immense damage to our economy, the education and mental health of our children and many adults as well. If that were not enough, the George Floyd tragedy in 2020 catapulted the nation into a time of racial tension and conflict, with 570 riots, followed by rampant crime, violence, homicides, and attacks on police, all of which persist to this day.

By 2021 we were realizing that COVID had one unexpected consequence that proved to be a blessing in disguise. When children were forced to do at-home-computer-learning, parents were able to see and hear the lessons. What they saw shocked them. They saw their kindergarten and elementary school children being taught sexual ideology denying the fixed nature of gender. They saw what can only be described as pornographic drawings of sexual acts. They heard critical race theory teaching their children to think of themselves as victims or oppressors.

They were teaching children to focus not on character, but on skin color. Parents learned that racial and gender identity were the preoccupation of today’s government schools, not reading, writing, math, science, and history. They realized their children were not being educated, but indoctrinated, and that these highly sensitive subjects were being taught without parental permission. Indeed, when parents voiced their objections, they were lectured about not intruding into the teachers’ business.

This issue had a dramatic impact in the 2021 Virginia election and mobilized parents across the country as they discovered how their children were being used for this perverse agenda. This is a gross intrusion into the sanctity of family and a grotesque assault on the innocence of children. We must never forget that faith and family are foundational principles upon which America was built. Only by respecting these values can we secure America’s future for our posterity. We must use every lawful tool available to stop this attempt to destroy our foundations.

STAND was formed to address these issues and the cultural decline they signify. Judeo-Christian culture created the most productive, prosperous, and free nation in history. There is a concerted effort to supplant that culture with moral and cultural reltivism. They would tear down the statues of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson and build altars to Karl Marx.

Although this battle is far from over, our best days lie ahead. Patriots must keep fighting for a virtuous, unified, prosperous, and peaceful America - “one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.” We will prevail because our faith is the victory which overcomes the world.

We stand together in the conviction that God will deliver us from every evil work; “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom;” that “America the Beautiful” will not simply be a song we sing, but the life we live in our beloved country.

Thank you for your prayers and partnership with STAND as we strive to stay true to America’s national destiny. We thank God for what we have been able to accomplish this far in service to the American people. We trust 2023 will be our most effective year yet.

May God bless you and your family, and may He bless us to see Americans return to Him and the values which made us the most successful nation in mankind’s history.

STAND AWARDS DINNER 2022

After the first STAND Awards Dinner in 2019, COVID forced a three year hiatus. We held the second Dinner on May 17, 2022 with a great turn out and enthusiasm. The event was held at the Tyson’s Corner Marriott in Fairfax County, Virginia and welcomed state and national Representatives and guests from around the country.

The 2022 George Washington Award for Taking a Stand was presented to: North Carolina Lt. Governor Mark Robinson; Virginia Lt. Governor Winsome Sears; Jason C. Johnson, President of the Law Enforcement Legal Defense Fund; Dr. Mary Grabar, author of “Debunking the 1619 Project: Exposing the Plan to Divide America;” and Mark Gonzales, Founder of the United States Hispanic Prayer Network.

Mr. Nathan Wallace, STAND Senior Fellow and liaison to parents of murdered children, shared his poignant story. He is the father of Natalia, a beautiful 8-year-old girl killed during a shooting in their neighborhood. She is one of the many “Forgotten Children” in our Gallery, created to assure that these children are forever remembered.

In addition to calling attention to this issue and the policies which have created the crisis, we are seeking to bring healing and hope to the families of these victims. There is nothing worse than the loss of a child, but to lose a child to preventable circumstances must be particularly frustrating and painful. We hope the dinner and the walk through of the Gallery helped you understand the gravity of this issue.

Vocalist, Mervin Mayo energized us with heartfelt patriotic music. Former Congressman Bob McEwen, our featured speaker, inspired us with the background to the Star Spangled Banner. Art Ally, President of the Timothy Plan gave a powerful appeal and call to action. It was an evening to remember, and much of the thanks goes to our twenty-six STAND Awards Dinner sponsors. GOD’S FAVOR ON OUR MINISTRY IN 2022 ACCOMPLISHMENTS

STAND held its first “Forgotten Children Project Conference” on October 15, 2022 in Chicago at the New Beginnings Church. Pastor Corey Brooks was our host. The focus was on remembering “The Forgotten Children,” and serving the families and communities that have lost their children to senseless violence and creating long and short-term solutions to the problem. One youth was murdered during our conference not far from where it was held. Local news covered the event. These atrocities must not be allowed to continue being perpetrated on our most innocent citizens with very little to no accountability from the press or their communities. As of the date of this writing, 312 innocent children have been murdered in street violence since STAND started tracking these atrocities in 2020.

We will go to Atlanta, Memphis, Philadelphia, Portsmouth, and other cities as funding allows. We wanted to call attention to these innocent victims who are being ignored by the mainstream media. The response was tremendous. People were very receptive because no one else is giving this issue attention or offering to help.

Our goal now is to establish STAND Chapters to follow through on our areas of emphasis - strengthening families, parental choice in education and enhancing public safety through cooperation with law enforcement. We are recruiting volunteers throughout the country to work in their local areas.

AWAKENING HEARTS & MINDS

The Awakening Hearts & Minds kicked-off in Richmond in September 2019, and is the STAND project designed to reverse the trend of racial division in America. Bishop Jackson and a diverse group of leaders he has assembled are casting a vision of unity, hope and opportunity instead of the despair offered by the Left.

They are bringing Americans together across all racial and cultural lines to preserve the Judeo-Christian values which are the foundation of our constitutional republic.

STAND has support in every state. Our team is a force for cultural transformation in communities which have suffered for decades in the unending cycle of poverty, poor education and street violence. The policies of the Left have them locked in ghettos. It is time to set them free!

Youth Taking a Stand is part of Awakening Hearts & Minds to offer our young people an opportunity for leadership in this focused campaign. As peers, their voices go a long way to provide our youth with the knowledge and importance of Judeo-Christian values in American society. On November 19, STAND hosted the first Youth Taking a Stand Virtual Conference with five of our young leaders from around the country. Bishop E.W. Jackson, Pastor TJ Grooms from New Beginnings Church, and Student’s for Life of America, Kristan Hawkins joined our members to talk about pressing issues in American culture, and how to combat the Left’s attack on the morality of America.

CELEBRATE AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH

Since 2010 STAND has been calling for a month to Celebrate American History. We finally settled on September because that is the month the Constitution was passed by the Continental Convention in Philadelphia on September 17, 1787. We are losing our sense of American identity and have been made to feel ashamed of our country and its history. It is time to restore respect for the nobility of our nation. It is time to end the historical revisionism that academia and other extremist and anti-American political forces have pressed upon the American people and our institutions.

We have Black History Month, Hispanic History Month, Asian and Pacific Islanders Month and even the rather weird exhibitionist Gay Pride Month. It is a sad commentary on our culture that many find it appropriate to celebrate sexual orientation, but not our common heritage as Americans. The time has come to honor the legacy and memory of those great patriots who came before us. We must pass on to those who follow us a reverence for the people who sacrificed for us. They bequeathed to us the freest nation any people have ever known. STAND is committed to bringing Americans together based on our common humanity. History when understood properly, helps us appreciate that we all have different backgrounds. Yet America is a shining city on a hill which has gathered us all together as one nation. Our ancestors may have come on different ships, but we are all in the same boat now.

PARENTAL CHOICE IN EDUCATION

We must maximize the right of parents to control the environment and curriculum for their children by allowing them to choose their children’s schools. The education dollars should follow the parents and the child, not the other way around.

America’s students score among the lowest of the industrialized nations in reading, math and science. In spite of this situation, many schools have time to teach children critical race theory, transgenderism and homosexuality. Let competition for those education dollars create the variety of schools which give parents options.

MAXIMUM POTENTIAL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

Supporting School Choice is a high priority for STAND. The Maximum Potential Christian Academy, founded in 2019 by Bishop E.W. and Mrs. Theodora Jackson is a practical example of STAND’s priorities. Mrs. Jackson has been teaching for over thirty years and holds a Masters Degrees in Education and Library Science. She and her team are pouring into the lives of their students as they expand toward a K-12 school.

This school is one of hundreds birthed out of the desire of parents to give their children a traditional education with emphasis on excellence in character and academic achievement. This growing movement, accelerated by COVID lockdowns and revelations about public school curriculum, has the potential to restore excellence in education as well as the traditional values which made America the world’s most prosperous nation. We must rescue students from the cycle of mediocrity and give them an education second to none with high standards, high expectations and the discipline to support high achievement.

INTERVIEW WITH MRS. THEODORA JACKSON, FOUNDER, MAXIMUM POTENTIAL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

What was your motivation for starting the school? My husband and I have believed for many years that more Christian schools should be opened to Christian families so that students would be taught Christian values with academics. In May of 2019, I heard a presentation from author Alex Newman that crystalized for me why our culture has become anti-God and anti- American. We are seeing the seeds of this anti-God and anti-American attitude in our society that has been taught in our schools for over 100 years. I do not want our Christian children going to school having to confront homosexual teachers and students and ungodly teaching. If ever there is a time to start a Christian school, the time is now!

What role do you see education playing in the future of our children and nation? The problem in America today is that we have an electorate that is indoctrinated rather than educated. The public school system, or rather government schools, have deliberately failed to teach the important ideals of what makes America great. For example, government schools teach that America is a democracy, not that America is a Constitutional Republic. Now, all that we hear in the progressive media is that our democracy is in jeopardy because some citizens revere the Constitution and want our country to follow the Constitution. Christian education and American history are essential to restoring our nation. In particular, the Principle Approach®, a philosophy of education where the Bible is the foundation of every subject, imparts the Biblical worldview in students that is critical to bringing our nation back to God. Maximum Potential Christian Academy is a Principle Approach School where we teach the Seven Principles of Liberty.

How can people get involved in serving and supporting the school? First and foremost, pray for the staff of Maximum Potential Christian Academy. We welcome community involvement! We need volunteers to read to our students, and to manage our social media. Our greatest need is finances, so that we can hire teachers, actively recruit students, and purchase curriculum. We also want a school pet! Resources are often our greatest obstacle for growth in Christian schools and barriers for parents that desire an alternative to government schools. I have been talking with two working families that want to remove their children from government schools. However, they live 25 miles south of Chesapeake and transportation is a problem for them.
