This week I celebrated 29 years at my company and over 32 years in my industry. Over 20000 LinkedIn connections. But I’m curious ? How many of them know the answers to the below questions? In the next 18 months you're probably going to leave whatever role you're in now. Are you thinking about your legacy at this job? It's easy to get lost in the goals and demands of your organization that are right in front of you. Which begs the question, what are the 3 things you want to be remembered for? Now check in with yourself every day. Did you bring the right amount of time and intensity to them?

Are you making the effort to build relationships in person? With so much to do and not enough time, it's easy to just schedule in a call for a moment.. But if you ask me, nothing will ever substitute shaking someone's hand, having a laugh over a coffee and feeling the presence of someone that you just can’t get with a phone call.. The most valuable asset you can give someone is your time.. So when you make the effort to go see someone, those actions say a lot more than words ever will. So if you are overdue for a catchup.. Or you are wanting to get to know someone better..  Make the effort to go see them, as I am sure they will appreciate it! Are you long overdue to strengthen some of those relationships?

This epitomises the backwards perspective of professional career prioritisation and wealth-chasing. Alex has some great advice and no one questions his material success... however, this advice is awful. Fucking Awful. It indirectly showcases a greedy Darwinian mentality of toxicity prevalent in the US, and with deeper-growing roots the world over. It's sour, its wrong, do not buy in to it. Cherish time with family. Cherish your good health friendships. Cherish your time with them, because you have no idea how much of it you have. We're dead in 100 years. We're forgotten a few decades after. Who on their dead bed wishes they have logged more hours working while their kids grew up and parents got old? A fool, that's who. A hollow broken incomplete human being only. AI will allow us to make a better world where we all have more time - our most precious form of wealth. It should lead us all to spending more time with loved ones and enriching our life with beautiful moments, not 'things' and vacation pics. Honestly, I know it's unprofessional, but Fuck this post.

Let's do a big old check-in. Because you're not alone, whatever you're doing. And neither am I! Let's find some common ground, or just get our intentions, our commitments, our current opportunities out into the world. I'll start, below, in the first comment.
