Public charter schools play a vital role in the educational landscape in some of New Jersey’s most underrepresented communities. Charter schools are free, nonprofit public schools open to all students regardless of race/ethnicity, income, or ability level.

Public charter schools provide families with access to a great public school that meets their children’s individual learning needs. In the Garden State, 60,000 students attend a public charter school with over 20,000 students on a wait list.

Public charter school students are thriving and are 33% more likely to read at grade level, and 44% more likely to do math at grade level.

All students deserve access to a great public school that works for them.

Over the past 5 years, the Murphy Administration has increased school funding by $1.8 Billion.

Through the unprecedented investment in K-12 public education under the Murphy Administration, school districts in which charter schools are located have seen significant increased per pupil funding, eliminating the argument that charters "drain funds" from local districts. The increase in K-12 funding proves that district and public charter schools can both successfully co-exist and thrive alongside one another.
