About the Iowa Environmental Council (IEC)  

The Iowa Environmental Council is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and the largest environmental coalition in the state. Through education, advocacy, and coalition-building, we raise awareness, generate action, and create large-scale change. We work on federal, state, and local public policy issues to ensure a just, healthy environment and sustainable future for all Iowans. 

Scope of Responsibility 

The Event and Fundraising Coordinator works collaboratively with the Director of Fundraising and Development, Director of Communications, and other Council staff on event planning and promotion, fundraising promotion, outreach coordination, and other duties as assigned. 

The Event and Fundraising Coordinator will utilize their skills and knowledge to plan and coordinate fundraising, outreach, and other IEC events with the input of appropriate staff and volunteer leaders to ensure a successful event. They will employ promotional tools such as emails and newsletters, mailed materials, social media, and advertising channels to promote IEC and its fundraising and outreach activities.  

Position Responsibilities 

  • Coordinate the planning and execution of events, including researching and securing venues, coordinating event vendors, preparing run of show, determining staffing, coordinating packing and materials, and all other event duties as required. 
  • Assist with securing donors and sponsors for events; manage sponsor communications throughout the event timeline. 
  • Attend and assist with Event Committee meetings. 
  • With the assistance of the Director of Communications and other staff as necessary, develop and execute promotional and communications plans for fundraising and outreach events, ensuring outgoing materials adhere to IEC brand standards. 
  • Attend in-person events to table and represent IEC, provide outreach and education, expand coalition opportunities, and network with potential supporters and donors. 
  • Execute social media related to event and outreach planning, assist with organization-wide social media when needed.   
  • Pitch ideas for and provide blog posts, photos, and other content for IEC website and newsletters. 
  • Assist with managing IEC’s CRM and email database. 
  • Assist with donor appeals, including coordinating emails and mailings.  
  • Prepare and complete donor and sponsor acknowledgements following events. 
  • Prepare and complete monthly donor acknowledgements.  

Qualifications 

Required

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of event planning and/or promotional marketing experience. 
  • Excellent communications and writing skills. 
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. 
  • Understanding and experience with legacy social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram; willingness to learn new platforms as necessary. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.  
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.  
  • Ability to attend events on nights and weekends as needed. 
  • Enthusiasm for protecting Iowa’s environment. 

Desirable

  • Fundraising or development experience. 
  • AA or BA or coursework in communications, public relations, marketing, event planning or management, community outreach, organizing and/or campaign work. 
  • Graphic design interest or experience, including use of graphic design tools such as Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and others. 
  • Interest in or knowledge of Iowa’s environmental issues and political landscape.

Compensation   

$45,000-$50,000
