Campground worker charged for brandishing gun in confrontation with black couple

A recently fired campground employee was arrested Tuesday after a widely shared video uploaded to Facebook showed the woman brandishing a gun during a confrontation with a black couple and their dog.

Ruby Nell Howell, 70, is charged with a single count of threatening exhibition of a weapon, according to the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department in Mississippi.

Howell turned herself in on Tuesday and was released on a $500 bond, according to a news release. She is scheduled to appear in court on June 25.{mosads}

In a video posted to Facebook last week by a woman named Jessica Richardson, Howell is seen in a Kampgrounds of America shirt holding a handgun at her side.

Richardson says in the video Howell approached them for picnicking without a license, which Richardson said she didn’t know was needed.

“Only thing you had to do was tell us to leave, we would’ve left. You did not have to pull a gun,” Richardson said in the video.

The viral video has more than 12,000 views on Facebook.

CNN reports Howell was fired after the incident was made public last month.

Kampgrounds of America said it does not condone the use of firearms on its properties, according to CNN.
