"Beyond saying 'yes' to one of the greatest requests in human history — to give birth to God’s Son — Mary supported Jesus’ mission and those he served. She endured unbelievable hardships and heartache to help others and is often seen as a champion and protector of vulnerable communities. That’s why this year the Covenant’s appeal theme is centered upon Mary as a woman of action. It’s not hard to see why — Catholic Climate Covenant is an organization of action. As we launch this Spring Appeal, we invite your financial support to advance this mission." This #TeacherAppreciationWeek, we've reflected on one of the primary goals of Catholic Climate Covenant: to educate Catholics across the U.S. about the importance of caring for God’s creation. We are so thankful for all of our educators in Catholic communities across the country, who play a huge role in sharing Church teachings and the importance of caring for our common home. Thank you, teachers! 🌍📚✏️ Tag a teacher to show your appreciation! #EcoCatholic
In our May Newsletter, our Founder and Interim Executive Director reflects on how climate work can sometimes feel like being stuck in an eternal winter, but he reminds us that there are bright spots and springtimes - we just need to know where to look! There are Catholic climate change successes and indications of progress, like the Catholic Diocese of Lexington's recent commitment to net zero emissions and the prophetic work of women religious. Over 100 high school-aged Catholics in the Chicago area heard a homily on #LaudatoSi from Cardinal Blase J. Cupich during the third annual Catholic Youth Climate Summit hosted by Catholic Climate Covenant and Archdiocese of Chicago in February. “Today, no one can claim to be a faithful disciple of Jesus if they don’t care about the environment,” said Cardinal Cupich in his homily. “This is a deeply theological issue.” Read or hear the whole homily here: https://lnkd.in/gA_WEfdJ
Last week, Catholic Climate Covenant praised the EPA's newly updated power plant emission standards. These emission guidelines will reduce power plant pollutants and improve the quality of life and the health of our vulnerable sisters and brothers for generations to come. We are heartened to see these positive steps being taken. Read our statement on this decision here: https://lnkd.in/gbg8-ppk We encourage you to let the #EPA know that, as people of faith who care about God’s creation, we support and applaud their action to tackle the climate crisis.
