Nothing is to be done out of jealousy or vanity; instead, out of humility of mind everyone should give preference to others, everyone pursuing not selfish interests but those of others.

Greener Lent is a Lenten program based on the Lenten Tradition of prayer, fasting and alms giving. Lent is designed to prepare our hearts to celebrate the Lord’s resurrection. According to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, “We are called not only to abstain from luxuries during Lent, but to a true inner conversion of heart as we seek to follow Christ's will more faithfully.” Although Lenten practices may differ among Christians, many Christians prepare for Easter by fasting, prayer and charitable works, and many faith communities are re-discovering the beauty and value of Lent. Millennials are another growing group that find value in Lent, even those who have been away from a formal faith community for some time.
Jesus identifies with the poor to such an extent that he will separate people based on their love for the poor like a shepherd separates sheep from goats. In the discussion of the Judgment of Nations in Matthew 25:31-46, he emphasizes that whatever one does or does not do for the “these least brothers”, it was done to Him.
Greener Lent focuses the 40 days of fasting, prayer and almsgiving for the poor throughout the world who are being disproportionally affected by the climate crisis. ”Not to enable the poor to share in our goods is to steal from them and deprive them of life. The goods we possess are not ours, but theirs." — St. John Chrysostom
