California needs sustained funds for homelessness after COVID-19

Dear Californian

We appreciate that the State has taken steps to help local governments temporarily move people into hotels, motels, and shelters in response to COVID-19. But what happens to those experiencing homelessness after COVID-19 becomes a memory?

Now is the time to plan for our long-term solutions to homelessness and housing insecurity. Our communities are currently sheltering thousands experiencing homelessness. Let’s ensure those sheltered do not return to or remain on the streets once the current public health crisis is over.

Today, we ask for your help in urging the Legislature to prepare a state budget that allocates resources to move people experiencing homelessness into permanent housing. Specifically, this budget would allocate funds for housing and rental assistance, supportive services, as well as affordable and supportive housing development. Funds would be distributed to communities to address problems at the local level. Now is the time for us to push for policy choices that support housing for all.  Taking action at this moment can help realize a better future for everyone tomorrow.
