Technology is critical to strengthening democracy. Governments and civil society may leverage digital tools and platforms to expand voter education and access to information, hold powerful actors accountable, and bolster connections among activists, journalists, and members of civil society. Yet, increasingly, malign actors have wielded technology to sow distrust and undermine electoral systems. As a leader in supporting elections and democracies worldwide, IFES continues to innovate to counteract evolving threats and identify new opportunities to use technology in ways that support electoral integrity. IFES's Tech4Democracy (also known as T4D) advances this strategic priority by supporting cutting-edge research and development of innovative tools within IFES that leverage technology to strengthen democracy and mitigate efforts to undermine electoral integrity.
