LGLC Welcomes Two to Advisory Board

Bolton Landing, NY – The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) is pleased to welcome Amanda May Metzger and Brendan Murnane to its Advisory Board.

Active members of the local Lake George and Bolton business communities, Metzger and Murnane are also both members of the LGLC’s Next Generation (NextGen) Committee, which organizes the LGLC’s annual trail race, Amy’s Adventure Race for the Lake, as well as other social and outreach events throughout the year. By joining the Advisory Board they are able to provide further input and feedback to the organization as a whole.

Amanda May Metzger works as the marketing director at the Lake George Regional Chamber of Commerce & Convention and Visitors Bureau. She is also a freelance writer, photographer and videographer.

She believes strongly in maintaining a balance between the interests of the environment and industry. Her passion for protection of the land around the Lake George watershed has led her to volunteer for LGLC events and initiatives including Hike-A-Thon.

“It has been amazing to see how the LGLC Next Gen committee and its endeavors have raised the profile of the organization among the next generation of conservationists. It has also brought people who share similar interests and passions together. I’ve met several new friends I may not know otherwise,” Metzger said. “By helping people to get out on the preserves and experience the beauty of the land around the lake, they can better understand their individual roles in keeping it pristine.”

In addition to participating in the LGLC’s NextGen Committee, Metzger also sits on the Joint Village-Town Lake George Occupancy Tax Committee.

Prior to working in marketing she was an award-winning journalist. In 2015 she was honored by the New York State Federation of Lake Associations with their statewide Media Award for continued coverage of lake issues. She is also the recipient of Associated Press awards for stories ranging from tropical storm coverage to the opioid epidemic.

She is originally from Binghamton, NY, and has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and geology from the University at Albany. She and her husband Mike live in Glens Falls with their calico cat Emma.

Brendan Murnane is the President of the Bolton Landing Brewing Company, which he opened with his father, John Murnane, in 2017. He manages the day-to-day operations of the brewery.

As a business owner, Murnane believes that conservation and business go hand in hand.

“It’s important that businesses, with their resources and visibility, take conservation matters seriously,” said Murnane. “Businesses can be the face of the community and we can showcase the work of local organizations to a large audience. For us, if the lake doesn’t thrive, we don’t thrive.”

Murnane has a BA Degree from Manhattanville College. He served on the Veteran Park Committee and is currently on Bolton Landing’s Zoning Board of Appeals and on the Bolton Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He also continues to be an active member of the LGLC NextGen Committee.

“As a member of the NextGen Committee,” said Murnane, “I recognize that revitalizing the area for the younger crowd is crucial. It will ultimately fall to the next generation to take care of this place. It’s our responsibility and I want to be a part of that.” Beyond that, he says, “I am looking forward to seeing more in detail what the Board has been doing but also what can be done and how I can help to keep the LGLC’s work moving forward.”
