Dear Friends,
After nearly four years with Bayou City Waterkeeper, I am writing to announce my transition and departure as Executive Director and Waterkeeper for Bayou City Waterkeeper in April 2021. This moment is bittersweet, as it has been a tremendous honor to serve this community and our shared work towards a more just, equitable, and resilient region. I leave on the best of terms with a solid Board of Directors, experienced staff, and established partnerships with community leaders and organizations. Following Bayou City Waterkeeper, I will remain in Houston and intend to stay involved with our community as the Executive Director of Public Lab – a national nonprofit focused on community science and open technology in the pursuit of environmental justice.
I am extremely proud of the work that Bayou City Waterkeeper’s staff, board, supporters, and partners have accomplished over the years, and greatly appreciate the deep relationships we’ve built during my time as Executive Director. While our work may not overlap on a daily basis, I look forward to sharing in the positive change that will continue in our community.
I want to give my deepest gratitude to all who have been so supportive of the organization, and of me personally, over the years: our amazing staff and dedicated board members (new and old alike!), our community and nonprofit partners, our funders, and all the supporters who make this work possible. Without you, Bayou City Waterkeeper would not be the strong and vibrant organization that it is today. I am so honored to have been a part of this incredible organization, and will watch with much excitement and anticipation as it continues to fulfill its mission and vision for a healthy and just watershed for all our communities.
Over the next few months, the Board will be conducting a search to find Bayou City Waterkeeper’s next Executive Director. It’s their priority to find a dynamic leader who has a passion for positive impact and will further Bayou City Waterkeeper’s mission to protect our natural systems and advance systemic change for all. The job posting is open, and I ask for your help in identifying candidates who will help Bayou City Waterkeeper flourish in the coming years. Thank you.

A Message from the Board of Directors
After several years of furthering Bayou City Waterkeeper’s mission and values, Jordan Macha has announced that she will be departing from her role as Executive Director in April 2021. Jordan’s vision and leadership will be greatly missed by the staff, board, and partners alike. We wish her the best of luck in her next chapter as Executive Director of Public Lab, a national nonprofit focused on the pursuit of environmental justice through community science and open technology.
During her tenure, Jordan has been a driving force behind Bayou City Waterkeeper’s growth and success as an organization. From growing the organization to a full-time staff of three, advancing collaborative partnerships with numerous community-based and nonprofit organizations, to building robust programs that have strategically placed Bayou City Waterkeeper as an environmental leader within the region. Jordan has established Bayou City Waterkeeper as a consistent champion of environmental justice, equity, stewardship, and community-centered innovation in the Lower Galveston Bay Watershed and beyond.
Reflecting on the depth and breadth of the programmatic work that Bayou City Waterkeeper has developed, we are tremendously excited about the future. The organization is in a strong position, both financially and programmatically, with a devoted and capable staff that will continue the vision shared across the organization. Together, with our committed board of directors, Bayou City Waterkeeper is uniquely positioned to be one of the region’s most respected and vibrant advocates for equitable access and clean water for all.
