Nevada has been stripped bare. State workers have been asked to work without full pay. Our unemployment workers can’t keep up with processing claims. And with the Las Vegas Strip shut down for months, we now have a huge budget hole that the Governor has said needs a special session of the Legislature to address.
Unfortunately, some legislators are already claiming “no new taxes”. That means, they’re willing to sacrifice education, health care, transportation, and mental health rather than make multi million and billion dollar corporations step up to the table and start paying their fare share. Unprecedented times call for unprecedented action.
For our communities, these cuts will be a catastrophe. The associated costs of the pandemic cannot fall solely on the shoulders of working class people, or Nevadans who depend on public services and social safety programs. It’s time to fix what’s broken about our economy and create long-term solutions for our communities to all have the freedom to thrive.
We’re calling on the legislature to be bold and to take action to:
