Public Citizen v. National Institutes of Health (Covid vaccines)

In the spring of 2020, the government announced an initiative to accelerate the development of COVID-19 treatments and vaccines. Named “Operation Warp Speed,” the initiative has paid more than $10 billion to pharmaceutical corporations under contracts the terms of which remain secret. In May 2020, Public Citizen submitted to the Department of Health and Human Services and the National Institutes of Health two Freedom of Information Act requests seeking information about Operation Warp Speed and other vaccine development efforts. The agencies failed to produce responsive records, and Public Citizen then filed a lawsuit to challenge their withholding of records.
