SHPA is pleased to announce the

First Annual

David A. Harrison

“Good, Better, Best"

Award

"Don’t rest until your GOOD is BETTER and your better is your BEST!"

This past year, the Homeless & Housing Community lost an amazing person and tireless advocate when we lost David Harrison.

David was the Program Coordinator in charge of the Madison County Community Development supportive housing and homeless prevention program. In addition, to being a long-standing member agency of SHPA, Dave served as a member of the SHPA Board of Directors and was Co-Chair of the Governance Committee.

Dave was the Chairperson of the Madison County Continuum of Care/Madison County Partnership to End Homelessness.

Dave was admired for his calm demeanor and his ability to not become jaded. He led by example and was a true public servant. He had great worries about the homeless population and would frequently lament about the shortage of local, state, and federal funding and would squeeze what he could out of the available funding to accomplish as much as possible.

Dave would feel guilty when he was enjoying the comforts of his own home when he knew there were people, young and old, trying to survive on the streets. They were not a number or an outcome measure to him, they were human beings.
Dave has been described by friends and colleagues as a Leader, a Compassionate Humanitarian with BIG Heart, patient, calm, humble, committed, dedicated, tireless advocate, a voice of reason and irreplaceable. He always kept the needs of the clients uppermost in his mind and heart and never lost his compassion for people in crisis.

* sentiments expressed within this announcement were contributed by David's friends, colleagues, co-worker Sharon Trettenero and wife Victoria Harrison.
