- Why: Salmon are a critical first food that have sustained the Tribe since time immemorial. The Nez Perce’s covenant with the salmon is integral to the Tribe’s culture, history, and current restoration work, including their advocacy to breach the four Lower Snake River dams.
This beautifully shot film documents the work of the Nez Perce Tribe to restore habitat and recover wild salmon in the Snake River basin. It shows how, despite these efforts, salmon are still threatened with extinction, largely due to four dams on the Lower Snake River. These massive obstacles block the salmon’s journey up and down the river, as well as creating stagnant reservoirs that get too hot for salmon to survive.
