2022-24 LWVUS Nominating Committee

The LWVUS Nominating Committee is responsible for proposing the slate of officers and directors for LWVUS as well as the three elected candidates for the LWVUS Nominating Committee. Members of the committee serve for two years. The members of the 2022-2024 LWVUS Nominating Committee are:

Melissa Currence | Chair

Melissa Currence joined the Cincinnati Area League of Women Voters in 1997 while in college. Her League expertise revolves around fundraising, online voter guides, social media, board restructuring, and coaching and mentoring. In Cincinnati, she has served in many roles including voter service vice president, fund development vice president, technology director, and president. In 2013, she founded a young people’s membership program, Act One: Hands-On Civics for Cincinnati, which has rejuvenated the local league leadership. Currence served as LWV Ohio board member from 2009-2010, launching the state’s social media presence.

Currence served as co-chair of the LWVUS Young People’s Taskforce from 2014-2016, which produced the Building the League of Tomorrow Toolkit and several webinars. She has served as a Ruth S. Shur Fellow for the League of Women Voters of the United States from 2015-2018, coaching the states of Illinois, Michigan, and New York. She was the co-host and producer for What Would Alice Paul Do?, a podcast created for LWV members nationally. She served on the LWVUS Board of Directors from 2018-2022, serving as the chair of the Governance Committee and Bylaws Committee.  

Currence has a bachelor’s in Political Science from Xavier University and a Master’s in Journalism and Communication from The Ohio State University. She earned her Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) in 2013. She is a communications manager for Procter & Gamble, serving P&G Professional in North America. She and her husband Marc recently have been enjoying learning to sail. 

Ann Murphy

Ann Murphy first joined the League of Women Voters of Pullman (Wash) in 1971 and has been a member of two other local Leagues in Washington state. Ann joined LWV Spokane Area in 1983 and has served as President (87-89, 05-11, 13-15, 20-22), VOTER Editor, and Nominating Committee Chair. Ann served LWV Washington as VOTER Editor (93-94), Board Member and then President (15-19), Lobby Team Chair (19-20); Nominating Committee (19-21).

She received Dorothy Roberts Award for years of service to the League of Women Voters and to the state of Washington (21). She also served on LWVWA Education Fund Board (2011-2019) – Treasurer (2013-14); President (2015-19 and served LWVUS on the Transformation Journey subcommittee (17). As an educator, she was a classroom teacher (10 yrs) and education coordinator for local solid waste system (24 years) and has coached and judged synchronized swimming. She has two adult children and two grandchildren.

Catherine Weller

Catherine Weller is a member of the League of Women Voters of Utah and currently serves on its redistricting committee. Through the years she has served the League as President/Co-President of LWVUT, Vice-President of Local Leagues, and co-editor of the Utah Voter. She also served on the LWVUS 2018 Bylaws Committee. Over the League years, Catherine has made numerous presentations, remarks, and addresses on a variety of topics for Utah local Leagues and the state League. 

Catherine is co-owner and new books buyer of Weller Book Works in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Mountains and Plains Independent Booksellers Association (MPIBA), and has also served on the Booksellers Advisory Council and on the Governance Committee of the American Booksellers Association (ABA). 

Catherine has worked in libraries or bookstores since second grade. Her commitment to politics and civic dialog was formed early by listening in on her mother’s consciousness-raising group in the early 1970s and arguing with her father about feminism beginning about the same time. She has served on various professional boards and committees in both the library and bookselling communities on regional and national levels. Her interests include reading, gardening, knitting, and hiking. Catherine fervently believes it is important to vacation off the grid at least once a year. She also enjoys pondering a more just world. 

Hannah E. Parker

Hannah E. Parker first joined the League in 2008 as a member of the LWV of Greenville County. As the LWV South Carolina State Director for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, she is now an active member of the Florence Area League and serves as the Second Vice President where she routinely wears many hats to support league activities.

Hannah is Founder and Principal HR Consultant for her own career management firm, HE Consulting, LLC; and also serves on the board for Friends of the Florence County Library, is a member of Florence County Clemson Extension Advisory Committee, and a Life Member of the Greenville County NAACP. 

Marnita Robertson

Marnita joined the League in 2018 as a member of the LWV Northern Valley (New Jersey). She served as a board member and co-chair of Voter Services from 2019-2020. She is a managing partner of Robertson Law, LLC and also volunteers as a board trustee for ACLU-NJ.
