The Center for Health Progress, an organization dedicated to ensuring that all Coloradans have access to health care, recently recognized our Director of Integrated Services, Lori Cohn, BSW, MA, CCM, for her commitment to supporting the health of low-income children. During the organization’s HEALTHtalks luncheon on September 17, Ms. Cohn received a Health Equity Champion award in recognition of her exceptional commitment and leadership in advocating for the broad health needs of all children.

“I am very appreciative of this honor, and I share it with all of the wonderful people who live out this mission every day,” said Ms. Cohn.

Ms. Cohn joined Every Child Pediatrics in 2006 as a social worker and has served as a Director, managing the organization’s wraparound services to patients, since 2012. In addition to managing the Care Management team and Behavioral Health program, Ms. Cohn provides direct services to children and families, develops and implements programs and collaborates with community organizations to advocate for change. Ms. Cohn has spearheaded a number of initiatives – from the establishment and growth of our behavioral health program to management of complex social services cases – that have helped improve the lives of thousands of disadvantaged children and families. Ms. Cohn has also served as a trusted leader for staff and has led diversity training and initiatives to better serve patients from all backgrounds.

Over the last 13 years, Ms. Cohn has made it her job to help children and their families navigate complex challenges and receive comprehensive care in support of their overall well-being. Ms. Cohn was an early proponent of the patient-centered medical home model, and under her leadership Every Child Pediatrics has steadily expanded services to include social services support, dental care, food and clothing for families in need, partnerships with community-based organizations and diversity and inclusion programs.

As Every Child Pediatrics grew to become one of the largest primary care providers for low-income children in Colorado, Ms. Cohn has been a vocal advocate for the needs of disadvantaged children, including immigrants, migrants, refugees, children with complex disabilities and challenging home lives. Through her work, she strives to erase health inequities and help all kids reach their full potential. She has shown exceptional determination and understanding through complex situations based on her abiding belief that all children, no matter what their circumstances, deserve the best care and opportunity to succeed. Ms. Cohn is the embodiment of love for community and social justice for marginalized families, and she has demonstrated that commitment throughout her tenure at Every Child Pediatrics.

This Healthy Equity Champion award reflects Ms. Cohn’s years of care and lasting dedication to serving all children, not only through her health care initiatives and advocacy, but also her passion and care on an individual level. She approaches every situation with patience, understanding and kindness, and she truly represents the future of health care in Colorado. We are incredibly grateful to have her as a part of Every Child Pediatrics team.
