Hello,

On behalf of NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania, I want to first commend and thank you for your commitment to public service by running as a candidate for the Pennsylvania General Assembly. As you know, a historic number of Pennsylvanians have filed to run this year not only in our state legislative races, but also for positions spanning municipal, statewide, and national offices. This collective desire to make a positive, meaningful impact in our Commonwealth is nothing short of remarkable.

Second, I want to introduce both myself and my organization, and to offer NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania as a resource to you and to all candidates – both during the election and beyond. As CEO of NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania, every day I see firsthand the realities, challenges, and successes experienced by individuals with mental illness and their families, who need the continued help and support of all our elected officials to get—and stay—on the road to recovery.

NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization. Both NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania and our regional affiliates have a long history of promoting access to proven, cost-effective mental health care for all Pennsylvania citizens.

Fortunately, our Commonwealth has already begun supporting early intervention at 10 sites across Pennsylvania through Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC) programs for First Episode Psychosis (FEP). These programs, which may already be operating in your own county, are a proven method of treatment for First Episode Psychosis, offering young Pennsylvanians a lifetime of better outcomes extending far beyond the programs’ duration.

In the coming weeks, we will be following up with you and our other General Assembly candidates to share more information about First Episode Psychosis, how these CSC programs work, and why they offer hope for people living with a serious mental health condition, their families, and their communities.

In the meantime, I invite you to learn more on our website, and to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates.

Thank you for your time and interest, and I look forward to following up with you soon.

Sincerely,

Christine Michaels, MSHSA
CEO, NAMI Keystone Pennsylvania
