Do you want to better understand the history of conservation and the environmental movement? Are you helping create a more equitable present and future? Please join us for a special screening of a webinar presented to the Mississippi River Network by leading equity practitioners, The Avarna Group.
"Conservation and environmental organizations have recently begun contending with the racial exclusion and injustice that defined their creation and much of their existence. This session explores environmental history and how it fits into the larger context of social history in the U.S. Through a timeline of events through the early 20th century, the session will reveal that despite their intent, conservation was not a categorically benevolent force, and in fact harmed Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color across Turtle Island."
While the webinar covers the environmental movement broadly at times, emphasis is placed on the geographies of the Mississippi River watershed. We'll see you at this important webinar screening on International Day of Action for Rivers, Thursday, March 14th, from 12 to 1 p.m. CT via Zoom.
