BREAKING NEWS OUT OF SOUTH MONTEREY COUNTY... THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE HAS ISSUED AN EVACUATION WARNING FOR AREAS ALONG ARROYO SECO ROAD...WEST OF EAST CARMEL VALLEY ROAD. OFFICIALS SAY THERE IS A RISK OF A LANDSLIDE ABOVE ARROYO SECO ROAD AT MILEPOST FIVE. IF THE SLOPE FAILS...OFFICIALS SAY THAT MAY RESULT IN THE ROAD BEING BLOCKED AND UPSTREAM FLOODING ON THE ARROYO SECO RIVER. THE EVACUATION WARNING INCLUDES THE AREAS OF MILLERS RANCH AND ARROYO SECO CAMPGROUND. THERE IS A SOFT ROAD CLOSURE AT ARROYO SECO ROAD AND EAST CARMEL VALLEY ROAD

Evacuation warning issued due to landslide risk along Arroyo Seco Road
The Monterey County Sheriff's Office issued an evacuation warning Tuesday for areas along Arroyo Seco Road and tributary roads to the west of East Carmel Valley Road. Officials say there is a risk of a landslide above Arroyo Seco Road at milepost 5 which could block the road and potentially cause upstream flooding on the Arroyo Seco River.The warning covers areas of Millers Ranch and the Arroyo Seco Campground.A soft road closure has been established at the intersection of Arroyo Seco Road and East Carmel Valley Road.The Monterey County Sheriff's Office urges any residents who feel unsafe to leave immediately without waiting for an evacuation order. Check with your neighbors to make sure they have been made aware of this alert.If you need to shelter your animals, you can call the SPCA at 831-373-2631 or after business hours at 831-646-5534.
