Black Lives Matter

We at Columbia Riverkeeper share the grief and anger over the senseless murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many others who have lost their lives to violence fueled by racism. We are outraged by the extreme violence inflicted disproportionately upon communities of color and we condemn the structural racism and oppression of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities. In these moments, it can be difficult to find the right words, but silence is not an option.

Our communities are the backbone of what we do. As an organization that fights for the health and safety of river communities, we recognize that racism and violence are social justice issues woven intricately into the fabric of our work. We also recognize the power of speaking out against injustice as critical to confronting the changes needed to dismantle this systemic racism.

Columbia Riverkeeper stands in solidarity with BIPOC communities and we are committed to fighting against the epidemic of police violence targeting people of color.

To our community members and our partners, we stand with you. It takes all of us to make a change. We encourage you to follow and support organizations doing social justice work. Here are a few examples:
