As the Nation Awaits Election Results, the Work of NNEDV to Support Survivors Continues

This year has been filled with a remarkable amount of uncertainty, and this election cycle has been no exception. The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) was founded to represent the 56 state and territorial domestic violence coalitions and to be a national voice for them and the survivors, advocates, and programs they serve, in order to create a world where domestic violence no longer exists.  No matter what happens over the coming weeks, we will be here for you.

While we await the results of the election, some things we know for certain are that survivors are strong and all survivors’ voices matter. We are familiar with uncertainty. In a year filled with incredibly difficult challenges, we have watched our community come together in new, powerful ways. We’ve seen innovative solutions from local programs, new ways to connect and create change, and we’ve begun to reckon with our own flaws and faults in the face of systemic racism and injustice.

NNEDV’s work continues and our policy priorities will always center the needs of coalitions and survivors. Regardless of election outcomes, we remain steadfast in these priorities:

• Centering the needs of historically marginalized survivors, including those who are Black, Indigenous, People of Color, LGBTQ+, and immigrants, and working to reform systems that imperil them;
• Responding to survivors’ needs amid the pandemic and natural disasters;
• Investing in core strategies that prevent and end gender-based violence and support the work of coalitions and local programs;
• Scaling up prevention strategies to reach every community;
• Addressing survivors’ housing needs; and
• Increasing survivors’ access to economic justice and financial security.

We will continue to connect and build new ways to raise awareness, advance our policy agenda, and support coalitions, programs, and survivors. We ask that, above all, you take care of yourselves and your communities.
