Tell lawmakers: no to youth privacy invasions and book bans
The Arizona Legislature is considering four dangerous bills:
SB1015 – lets parents view minors' confidential medical records to interfere in care for such matters as birth control, rape, in-family abuse, or abortion.
HB2161 – similar to SB1015, but also requires schools to disclose such information as what gender identity a youth uses in school
HB2439 and HB2495 – a ban of books in schools that talk about sexuality and race.
The privacy bills tear down protections for young people that keep them safe, especially in circumstances where they may face abuse or harm from within the family. And the book bans would prevent young people from accessing information that promotes critical thought; factual understandings of history and science; and texts meant to reduce hate, bullying, and suicide among students.
