Vaccine Clinic Availability for Regulated Child Care Providers

We're reaching out to request your assistance with filling upcoming vaccine clinics for educators and child care providers.  We know that child care providers have many factors to consider around scheduling their vaccine appointment, but we cannot guarantee that if a clinic is undersubscribed in any given area that another educator/child care provider clinic will be scheduled there in the future. Please emphasize that if there is a clinic in the area where they live or work, that may be the best opportunity for them to get vaccinated during this specific effort to vaccinate educators and child care providers.

We also understand that some staff may be waiting to get a one-dose vaccine. Please remind them that the guidance from the CDC and the Vermont Department of Health is to take whatever vaccine is available and offered. Each vaccine is safe and effective and the most important thing is to gain protection from COVID-19 as soon as possible.

The following clinics have some availability - the time slots are limited and may not be available for the full hours of the clinic. Times of the clinic are available online. Appointments must be made online, please see below for instructions on how to make appointments.

The following individuals are eligible if they have direct, in person contact with children, afterschool activities specialists, auxiliary staff, business managers, and partner staff. Household members in a Family Child Care Home 16 years of age and older that have direct, in person contact with children are also eligible.
  • The individuals must be working in a regulated child care, preschool or afterschool program that is currently operating providing direct, in person care to children.
  • Child care programs can share their code with any Children’s Integrated Services (CIS) providers and other auxiliary and partner staff that are coming in to their program to provide direct, in person services to a child.
Do not share your information with individuals that are not eligible for a vaccine.

How to Sign Up:
  • You and any staff can set up an account and schedule an appointment here https://www.healthvermont.gov/covid-19/vaccine/getting-covid-19-vaccine
  • The codes to use were sent previously to programs.
  • Codes are case specific, and it is important to use it exactly as it is above. If the letters are lowercase, please use lowercase letters when you enter it in to create your account.
  • The registration screen will call for an organization, enter the words “child care” as the organization.

Helpful Hints:
  • If you need help setting up your account, contact the COVID-19 call center at 1-855-722-7878. You need to know the code prior to calling.
  • Information about the vaccine is available at: https://www.healthvermont.gov/covid-19/vaccine/getting-covid-19-vaccine
  • Many local pharmacies will begin offering vaccines. You can get your vaccine anyplace that works for you. If you make an appointment through the Vermont Department of Health, and you end up getting the vaccine at a pharmacy, it is important that you cancel your other appointment.
  • Public school staff and unregulated afterschool staff that meet the education criteria should use the instructions for that type of organization.
  • Staff who are eligible for the vaccine due to age or health conditions retain their eligibility, regardless of in person contact with children.
  • When calling/contacting pharmacies, identify yourself as an “educator”. The system was set up for educators before child care providers were added so many pharmacies are looking for this term.
  • Walgreens only books out 3 days, so if there are no slots, go back on the next day and look.
  • The statewide scheduling team is loading new sites as they are organized and confirmed, they try to load them after 4:00 PM daily. However, if additional clinics get scheduled after that time, they may load them in the morning, instead of waiting until 4pm.
  • Pharmacies, including Walgreens, are telling us they are not requiring codes. Rather, they are asking people to self-attest as they register that they are eligible by VT guidelines – it may say educators or healthcare workers. Child care providers and other people eligible under this phase should identify as an educator.
  • Here is the website to set up your account https://www.healthvermont.gov/covid-19/vaccine/getting-covid-19-vaccine
  • If you are having difficulty creating an account you can call this number 1-855-722-7878 for assistance, please have your code ready, they will need it.

Individuals Not Eligible:
  • Individuals that work in a regulated program but do not have regular, direct, in person contact with children.
  • Individuals employed by a program not currently providing in person, direct care to children.
  • Individuals that work in unregulated programs
  • Household members in a Family Child Care Home that do not have regular, direct, in person contact with children.
