Request for Proposals

The Action Alliance is seeking a diverse group of workshops to be presented at our 2018 Justice. Healing. Liberation. Conference.

As the landscape surrounding sexual and domestic violence continues to change, and research continues to emerge, the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance aims to provide new and relevant information that the movers and shakers in these fields are hungry for. This May, we will be hosting a conference in Richmond, Virginia titled Justice. Healing. Liberation. Each day will have a specific focus:

·       Brain Science- Trauma’s Impact on the Brain and Body

·       Telling Our Stories- The Power of Storytelling

·       Paradigm Shifts- Emerging Trends in the Field

The conference will be held May 2-4, 2018 at the Virginia Crossings Hotel & Conference Center, located at 1000 Virginia Center Pkwy, Glen Allen, VA 23059.

Keynotes include traumatology expert Dr. Dawn O'Malley of the Child Trauma Academy and the Director of Mental Health at ChildSavers, John Richardson-Lauve!

We are looking for a creative, diverse set of workshops and presentations.  You are encouraged to think outside the box to share your expertise with your colleagues in a way that inspires openness and encourages meaningful conversation among participants.

Workshops should be interactive whenever possible, giving participants a break from lecture and an opportunity to engage in the learning process.

In all our workshops, we’d like our facilitators to consider how our current approaches to sexual and domestic violence may have room for improvement, and how things could be improved upon. Ideally, our participants would leave your workshop contemplating new ideas and perspectives for how to respond to and prevent SV and DV. Additionally, we are asking all presenters to provide audience members with tools to take back to their places of work that will help them incorporate these teachings at all levels.

Please keep in mind that racial justice and ending all forms of oppression are at the forefront of the Action Alliance’s mission, and that this understanding should be kept throughout your presentation proposal. We are looking for workshops that are intersectional, empowering, and focused on dismantling systems that disadvantage marginalized groups.
