Promoting quality education for all.

The Global Campaign for Education-US (GCE-US) welcomes President-elect Biden's nomination of Ambassador Samantha Power to serve as the next Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). We look forward to working together with Ambassador Power and the entire USAID team to ensure quality, inclusive education for students everywhere, right from the start.

In the midst of global and national challenges, confirmed leadership at our lead development agency is vital. We applaud President-elect Biden for highlighting the importance of strong, inspiring leadership at USAID. We are pleased that President-elect Biden elevated the USAID Administrator role to the National Security Council within the White House, reflecting the critical role of international development, humanitarian assistance, and global education.

Ambassador Power previously served as the 28th U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN). During her time at the UN, she worked to negotiate and implement the Sustainable Development Goals, helped catalyze international commitments to care for refugees, and advocated to secure the release of political prisoners, defend civil society from growing repression, and protect the rights of women and girls. Ambassador Power also served on the National Security Council as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, where she focused on issues including LGBT and women’s rights, protection of religious minorities, UN reform, and the prevention of human trafficking.

We congratulate Ambassador Power on this important nomination and, if confirmed, look forward to working together to ensure quality, inclusive education for students everywhere, right from the start. The Global Campaign for Education-US urges the Senate to hold a confirmation hearing and swiftly confirm Ambassador Power as USAID Administrator.
