BREAKING: Bold Action for Clean Drinking Water

We are kicking off the 2020 with an important new campaign to protect people whose drinking water is at risk.

Last week we filed a Safe Drinking Water Act petition with the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which demands the agency take emergency action to address existing groundwater contamination in Eastern Oregon’s Lower Umatilla Basin Groundwater Management Area.

All people deserve clean drinking water.

Mega-dairies in eastern Oregon pose enormous risks for thousands of people that rely on groundwater in rural communities. The mega-dairy disaster that unfolded at Lost Valley Farm demonstrated why these huge, polluting industrial facilities have no place in Oregon.

But Oregon regulators are currently considering plans for another mega-dairy on the former Lost Valley site. This is unacceptable.

In the face of state inaction, the EPA must take emergency action under the Safe Drinking Water Act to address existing groundwater contamination and protect local drinking water sources from new mega-dairies.

I hope you’ll join Columbia Riverkeeper in fighting for everyone’s right to clean, safe drinking water.

Tell Governor Brown and EPA Regional Administrator Hladick:

We need emergency action to address rural Oregon’s groundwater contamination.
